My dear friend Amy's nephew was born with an undetected heart abnormality in February of this year.
Here's a little info on Dylan-
Dylan Paul was born February 23, 2011 and weighted 8 lbs and was just over 20 inches long. During a routine check of his heart, the doctors discovered a abnormal heart beat. After additional testing, it was discovered that Dylan's aortic valve was not functioning at 100%. Dylan was transported to Children's Memorial Herman Hospital in the Medical Center for further testing and evaluation. After several days of observation, the doctors decided to proceed with a balloon aortic valvuloplasty to repair the valve. During this procedure, several major complications occurred which left little Dylan in critical condition. As of this writing, Dylan is in stable, but critical condition and he will continue to undergo additional testing in the weeks to come.
Dylan has made a strong recovery and is doing great now. Dylan's family formed a team, "Prayers for Dylan," to walk in the March of Dimes Walk in Houston on May 1, 2011. We took baby steps the entire 5 miles. I say Baby Steps because there were so many people walking that you could not take big steps. What a great day and a wonderful way to bring awareness to the health of babies!
